The road to your wedding day begins with the proposal. After an initial celebration, the next way to enjoy your wedding season is through the engagement photoshoot. To me, deciding how to personalize this experience is the best part! Here’s a couple who took this opportunity to heart and made their engagement session a reflection of their love. Read on for how this Austin engagement photographer was a fly on the wall for a couple’s loosely yet perfectly crafted day!

Go on a Date & Take an Austin Engagement Photographer With You

One of the biggest tips for engagement photos that I love to share is to very intentionally plan very little. Wedding and even elopement planning can require great effort as you collect all of the details and people to make the wedding day timeline run smoothly. Shooting your engagement photos can follow a stress-free and loose plan so that the time is enjoyed naturally!

In describing each other, Pari said that “Sean is “kind, caring, gentle and patient. He’s funny and easygoing, but can be super firm and serious when needed. He’s my rock, but also allows me to be his rock.” Sean confirmed that “Pari is always happy, even when she thinks she’s not. She can light up a room and not even know it. She makes me smile even when I’m so pissed at the world I can only see red.”

This pairing of personalities translated to having a fun day of simply existing. When was the last time that you enjoyed a new place with the person you love most? Pari noted how she took in so much more from walking around without any specific plans. I just nodded along with her thinking, Yes, that’s exactly what I’m trying to do here. It was easy as their Austin engagement photographer to just make myself invisible and follow along as they enjoyed their time together.

When Your Engagement Session is Actually About YOU

As a documentary style photographer, I encourage couples to treat their engagement session like a date. Instead of posing in a random field and inevitably wondering what to do with your hands, you can instead explore and interact with the nature or city around you. I utilize specific spots but for the most part the couples lead where we land for those candid moments. I try to create a space for couples to exist and be themselves together.

Your engagement session should be an honest reflection of the two of you no matter if having all that attention isn’t your preference. Pari and Sean shared up front that “we don’t like to be the center of attention. We’re not super comfortable spending hours posing. We want our photos to be natural, and unique to us.” Even with their Austin engagement photographer following along, Pari and Sean found themselves surprised by how comfortable they felt at their creative and fun engagement shoot.

South Congress Austin Provides the Romance for Your Engagement Session

Pari and Sean chose to explore South Congress in Austin Texas for their engagement photo session. I love shooting on South Congress Avenue so much! There are so many different nooks and crannies to play with throughout the South Congress Austin shops. Home to the iconic Austin Motel sign, the overall look is more retro mid-century vibes with breezy streets, neon signs, and modern landscaping.

As an experienced Austin engagement photographer, I’m always sure to capture couples crossing the street with the Austin capital and skyline in the background. The day started at sunrise so we could have the entire street to ourselves and explore before any crowds arrived in this popular area. We stopped at one of the best coffee shops in South Congress Austin: Jo’s Coffee. This building also houses the famous “I love you so much” mural. This makes for the perfect romantic backdrop to any couple’s session.

Pari and Sean describe some of their favorite outings as “having random simple date nights.” This date morning provided them with a chance to enjoy time together locally in an urban setting that felt like an experience that they value most together. The ideal ending to their session was a quick shot of whiskey, a tradition of theirs that marks special occasions like this one!
